BOOK Week arrives at PCACS

BOOK WEEK has taken PCACS by storm, with both campuses experiencing the excitement of this annual event!

The theme of this year’s Book Week is ‘Find your treasure’.  Each year the Children’s Book Council of Australia shortlists what they consider to be the best published children’s books for 2018.  These books have been written and illustrated by Australian authors.  Over the last couple of weeks Junior School students have had some of these books read to them during their library sessions in preparation for this week!

On Tuesday 21 August, the Years 3 and 4 students had a rare opportunity to meet and speak with Children's author, Raewyn Caisley.  Her entertaining stories were a highlight for the students, often reflecting about her life in a remote country town as one of the major influences of her stories.  Raewyn imparted some very valuable writing strategies for the students, totally engaging them in interactive workshops and story-telling sessions.

On Wednesday 22 August children's author/illustrator, Wendy Binks returned to the school showcasing her popular Australian book characters, including the ever-popular 'Stripey' the Ostrich.

Wendy spoke to the students from both campuses about the process of publishing a book, her creative process when coming up with her ideas, and the selection process when putting the final book together.

All students (and teachers) then joined Wendy in a drawing workshop, and for a moment, all of the students experienced what it was like to be an professional illustrator.

Book Week continues on Thursday and Friday with the 2nd Hand Book Sale at both campuses and students in the Junior school from both campuses will dress up as their favourite Book characters.
