Welcome Assemblies in Junior School

On Tuesday 12 February and Wednesday 13 February 2019, the Junior School celebrated their start of the school year with Welcome Assemblies at both Calista and Wellard campuses.

As well as our new Kindergarten students, 26 new Junior School students have joined PCACS this year across both campuses, and it was fitting to welcome them to our community in such a fashion.

At Calista, Kindergarten teachers accepted Welcome Certificates from our School Principal Ms House on behalf of their students, and new students from Pre-Primary to Year 1 celebrated their first assembly in the Calista auditorium.

Additionally, at the Wellard campus,  Ms House presented all the new students with their Welcome Certificate and the Year 6 students were also recognised as the new leaders of Junior school and some students were recognised for their recent achievements and contributions to a variety of initiatives;

  • Year 5 teacher Mrs Danielle Butler and Year 4 student Isobel Cloney accepted a certificate on behalf of the school for our involvement in the Alcoa W5 Programme.  This is an environmental literacy initiative focused on Green STEM. (Warming-Waste-Water-Watts-Wildlife) The project educates children about environmental issues through science, technology, engineering and maths skills.
  • Mr Parnell presented Year 6 students George Old, Benjamin Philips, Ollie Crowder, Lachlan Pratt with certificates for their achievement in the Australian STEM Video Game Challenge. This programme focuses on developing and encouraging STEM-related skills through the enjoyable and intrinsically fun medium of interactive game development.  The Australian STEM Video Game Challenge is working to alter student perception of STEM subject areas, and helping to create a renewed commitment to STEM-related disciplines amongst Australian students.
  • Mr Griffin congratulated Year 6 student Kai Keulder and presented him with two Gold Medals for being Runner-Up in 2 separate categories in the Young Australian Art Awards.  This is a National Award and Kai's photograph on canvas "Ancient" (depicting a 750 Year old Boab tree that was re-planted in Kings Park) and his painting "Lord of the Sky" (A painting based purely on  his imagination) were favourites with the judges.
  • Year 3M were awarded the first Tidy Town award for the year for keeping their classrooms tidy both inside and out.  This is a fortnightly award recognising Primary Classes that do that 'bit extra' in keeping our school beautiful and setting a positive example for other students

Mrs Steel congratulated all students at the assembly for their organised and enthusiastic approach to the start of the year.
