Chinese Lion Dance Incursion - Celebrating Chinese New Year

Across both campuses today, Pre Kindergarten to Year 6 students helped celebrate Chinese New Year by taking part in an incursion with the Chung Wah Association who performed the traditional Chinese Lion Dance.

Lion dance has been part of Chinese culture for thousands of years and is performed on auspicious events such as weddings, new store openings and various festivals and celebrations. The lion, a symbol or power, wisdom and good fortune, chases away evil spirits and brings happiness, longevity, and good luck. The lion dance is performed during Chinese New Year celebrations as the lion brings prosperity and good luck for the upcoming year.

Students had an opportunity to interact with the lions as well as learning to appreciate Chinese art and traditions.
