Sport

Physical and Health Education play an important role at Peter Carnley Anglican Community School. Educating students about the importance of leading a healthy, active and well-balanced lifestyle is at the forefront of our teaching and the focus of all the sporting opportunities on offer at the School.

Students from Kindergarten to Year 12 undertake two periods of Physical Education a week and students from Kindergarten to Year 10 also have a weekly Health Education lesson.  This aligns with the Western Australian Curriculum requirements.

The Health Education programme focuses on the topics of Wellness, Drug Education, Lifestyle Choices, Safety, and Growth and Development.  Students continue to learn these topics throughout their schooling with increasing complexity and information as they get older.

Students in Early Learning complete a Fundamental Movement Skills programme that aims to give students the necessary skills to undertake important physical movements.  They then graduate to more game play and modified sports in the junior years, preparing the students to use their skills in a wide variety of sports in Senior School.

Senior School Physical Education aims to develop the students’ physical, interpersonal, self-management, communication and decision making skills that they can apply to all activities and sports.  Some of the sports covered in Senior School include: Cricket, Softball, Netball, Basketball, AFL, Soccer, Volleyball, Softcrosse, Touch Rugby, European Handball, American Football, Table Tennis, Badminton, Floorball, and Athletics.

To support the Physical Education programmes and create healthy competition amongst the Houses, there are three Interhouse carnivals throughout the year including Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics.

PCACS prides itself on being a member of the Kwinana Schools Sports Association (KSSA) in Junior School and the Associated and Catholic Colleges (ACC) in the Senior School.  These organisations provide opportunities for students to be involved in Interschool carnivals throughout the year including Athletics, Swimming, Cross Country and Lightning Carnivals.

PCACS is also a member of the sub association of ACC called Rockingham-Kwinana Associated Schools (RKAS).  Students are selected to compete in an after school sports programme in a variety of sports extending from Year 7 to Year 12  This is an exciting programme that is developing every year. The current RKAS sports offered are:

There is a small but growing number of opportunities for students to be involved in PCACS teams including AFL for girls and boys, Cricket and Hockey, this is subject to student numbers and availability of coaches.  There are also a number of teams in the Rockingham Districts Netball Association and Rockingham Basketball and Recreation Association competitions. This competition is run by parents and has been a great success, see the Netball and Basketball tabs on this website for more information.

As the School continues to grow and develop, the sporting programmes, teams, carnivals and opportunities will expand and flourish.  We look forward with great anticipation to what the future holds for sport at PCACS.

Peter Carnley Basketball Club welcomes all new and existing PCACS Students. PCACS Basketball club has been running for over 5 years and we have over 20 teams in the club, ranging from U8s up to U18s.

PCACS Basketball club is not part of the PCACS Basketball Academy Programme run by the school.

Basketball runs all year and has a Summer and Winter season. Summer runs through Term 4 and Term 1 of the following year, Winter season is held during Terms 2 and 3.

PCACS Basketball is affiliated with the Rockingham Basketball Association.  All games are played at the Mike Barnett Sports Centre (Dixon Road, Rockingham) with U12s at the moment playing on Saturdays – however, this could change. The other age group games are held on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evenings from 4.00pm.  Games are two 19-minute halves. Training times are determined by the Team Coach and Team Manager. Training is held in the PCACS Keith Lindbeck Centre (Gym) usually for an hour between 3.30pm-4.30pm.

Age group changes for the Summer season. For example, this Summer season and Winter season the age groups are as below. In Term 4 they will change as years move up.

  • U8s Year Born 2016 - 2017
  • U10s Year Born 2014 - 2015
  • U12s Year Born 2012 – 2013
  • U14s Year Born 2010 – 2011
  • U16s Year Born 2008 – 2009
  • U18s Year Born 2006 – 2007

These age groups are set by Basketball WA and no exceptions will be made.

Each team requires a minimum of 5 players. Ideally 7 -8 on a team allowing for substitutes.

PCACS Basketball is run entirely by volunteers.  All coaches, team managers are volunteers.  If a team does not have a Coach, then unfortunately we are unable to accommodate that team. We welcome Senior School students volunteering to coach the younger year teams, this can go towards Duke of Edinburgh Awards.  Each team requires a Team Manager.  ALL Parents are expected to Score at games. Team Managers will prepare a roster for these times.

IMPORTANT NOTE - Teams cannot go ahead without a Coach or Team Manager in place.

EOI will be sent out a few weeks before the end of each season for the following season. This is done via a TRYBOOKING Link on PCACS Basketball FB page and also PCACS Parents page.

PCACS Basketball communication is through the PCACS Basketball Facebook page or emailing PCACSbasketballclub@pcacs.wa.edu.au

The Peter Carnley Anglican Community School (PCACS) Netball Club committee welcome our returning students to the 2023 school year and new students and families to the PCACS community.

Netball is returning in 2023

Is your daughter or son interested in representing PCACS in the local netball competition for 2023? Is your daughter or son interested in umpiring for the 2023 season?

Our PCACS Netball club is affiliated with the Rockingham and Districts Netball Association (RDNA).  All games are played at the Mike Barnett Sports Centre (Dixon Road, Rockingham) with Junior games being played on a Saturday.  The season runs from April to September, and games run for just over an hour.  Training times are determined by the Team Coach and Team Manager, which is usually one hour at a time convenient to the Coach.

We would like to increase our PCACS umpire squad for the 2023 season, so if you are interested in umpiring, we want to hear from you. Umpires play an important role in our Netball community.

PCACS teams comprise students from most year levels from the younger Net Set Go players up to our oldest Junior teams.  The age groups for the 2023 season are as follows and are determined by the Player's year of birth;

  • Net 2017/2018
  • Set 2015/2016
  • Go 2013/2014
  • Junior 12 2011/2012
  • Junior 14 2009/2010
  • Junior 16 2007/2008
  • Junior 18 2006/2005

IMPORTANT NOTE - The Age Group is set by Netball WA (NWA) and we are restricted to this ruling.

Teams can be formed with a minimum of 8 players. For the 2022 Winter Season we had seven teams across all age groups, and we had four teams participate in the 2022 Spring competition.

All teams must have a Coach (parent/carer or even an older PCACS student) and Team Manager before teams can be put together.  The Coach and Team Manager volunteer their time throughout the season so play an important role in our Netball community.

IMPORTANT NOTE - Teams cannot go ahead without a Coach or Team Manager in place.

The aim of PCACS netball is to get out on the court, learn new skills, build teamwork and resilience and have fun while maybe winning a few games.
