International Women's Day - Special guest - Professor Fiona Wood

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.  The theme for this year’s celebrations is ‘Choose to Challenge’.  A challenged world is an alert world. Individually, we're all responsible for our own thoughts and actions.  Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world.

To celebrate International Women’s Day the Year 10, 11 and 12 girls were inspired by our special guest Professor Fiona Wood, one of Australia’s most innovative and respected surgeons and researchers.  Fiona shared with the girls the importance of self-belief and hard work in order to make their own path in life.  She encouraged them to always be curious, continue asking ‘why’ and have wonder about the world and the way it works.  Fiona told them education is a privilege and is the gateway to opportunity and possibility.  It is evident that Fiona has displayed grit, determination, persistence and leadership throughout her years as a student, medical professional and mother of six children.  We were extremely privileged that Fiona shared her time, story and pearls of wisdom with our senior girls today.

Following the presentation, the Year 12 girls along with staff and some former students enjoyed a shared lunch to celebrate International Women’s Day.
