Mobile Italian Cafe at PCACS

The Italian café has metamorphosed! We no longer operate from the café next to the Lote buildings, but instead, we are operating from a new barista van, designed especially for us, and which is parked in the courtyard near the canteen. The new van is awaiting a name, after students entered a competition to offer their suggestions and we are eagerly anticipating the results of this.

The coffee van opened on Monday of this week, with Mr Dukic, Mrs Russell and Mrs Hunt stocking it with fresh milk, beans, and then cups and other items that have been in storage since the end of last year. A few sales got under way when we hijacked Sandi to come and do her barista thing for us. On Tuesday, Manaia and Sandi were pleasantly surprised by the business that occurred and on Wednesday, Connor and Karl were blown away by the amount of customers we received for both hot chocolates and coffees.

This morning, after the pre-school shift, eleven willing Year 9 and 10 students, who were selected to train as new baristas, eagerly awaited our trainer, Raj, who drove all the way from North of Perth to assist us. She was fantastic and all the students had the opportunity to operate the barista machine and experiment with coffees of all types, along with hot chocolates and mochas. The course lasted from about 8.30 until 12 pm; and when they produced cup-loads of free coffees, staff came running out of their rooms to gratefully accept a trial cup of coffee.

New skills were learnt, and these 11 students will now join our current staff of 4 baristas in the mornings from 8 until 8.20 to make coffees for staff and hot chocolates for students. Hot chocolates cost $2 and coffees cost $3 for a small cup or $4 for a large one. We look forward to many more changes so watch this space.
