Official Opening and Naming Ceremony of Moortang Mia

On Monday 21 November 2022, the School celebrated the Opening and Naming of Moortang Mia.

Known as 'The Hub' throughout the duration of the planning and building of this magnificent facility, Moortang Mia is a Noongar term which translates to 'Place of family' and 'community coming together'.

Originally two separate buildings containing the library and undercover area, the space has been transformed by a clever and thoughtfully designed refurbishment and extension. Moortang Mia is a beautiful and functional building housing Performing Arts, TIDES, IT and offices with research and reading zones upstairs and a modern Cafe at the entry. Facing into the heart of the School, the building has genuinely transformed life at PCACS.

It was a reflective and heartfelt ceremony with The Right Reverend Kate Wilmot giving the official blessing of the new building and Noongar Elder Barry Winmar delivering an emotional 'Welcome to Country' and the very first smoking ceremony in the history of the School.

Principal, Ms Felicity House addressed the audience of invited guests. She spoke of the concept and creation of the building, the naming and the significance to the life of the school.

Thank you to The Reverend Peter Laurence OAM who joined Ms Felicity House in unveiling the plaque that will be permanently mounted at the entrance to Moortang Mia and officially Opening the Building.
