Year 4 students working with fire!

On Thursday 19 September the Year 4 Classes participated in a Fire Safety/Awareness session in the Junior School courtyard as part of their Health Inquiry (Social and Emotional Learning).

Students learnt simple techniques in 'how to start a simple fire'  using a simple flint, petroleum jelly and cotton balls.  Students discussed general safety points when working around a home-made fire/firepit and how to sustain a natural campfire for cooking and warmth.

Despite a little bit of cooler weather and a tricky breeze, students enjoyed the experience and finished by roasting marshmallows on sticks they had gathered from the Nature play area.
