Year 5 Perth Observatory Excursion

This term, the Year 5 students had an opportunity to visit the Perth Observatory having studied 'Earth and Space' in their Science unit in class.

The purpose of this excursion was for students to extend and apply their knowledge beyond the classroom environment.

The Perth Observatory is Western Australia’s oldest observatory which is located 35 km east of Perth in Bickley. The Observatory has served WA for over 120 years and remains actively involved in the service of public education through Day Tours for schools and Night Sky Tours for the public.

Not only did the students explore the incredible telescopes on-site, but they also participated in a variety of activities including gravity investigations, looking at the solar rings, using sunspotters to analyse the sun and learn about the rich history of space observation and research.
