Term 2 – Week 10
As the term draws to a close, it is time to reflect on our accomplishments. Term 2 always seems busier than the other terms with a focus on assessment and reporting. Soon reports will be available. Reports are an integral part of the learning experience. The teaching staff have taken a lot of time to make considered comments about the progress of our students. Please spend time discussing the comments and use the reporting process to talk about learning and the importance of commitment and routine. No matter what the results, there is something to learn from each experience. It may be to trust in one’s own ability, to refine study techniques, to build confidence, to prepare better next time or to celebrate success. This time can also be spent setting new PBs. PBs are an important part of the PCACS learning journey.
We found many opportunities to enrich the experiences of our students this term. Term 2 has featured many incursions, excursions and events across the Campuses. We have participated in Lightning Carnivals, Cross Country, School Sport WA Secondary Champion Schools in Basketball, the Anglicare Ambassadors Launch, Kwinana Industries Council events, Music Recitals, the Global Academic Challenge just to mentions some highlights. This year the Year 12 Prefects introduced a new initiative, Spirit Week leading up to Founders’ Day to honour our House Patrons. Our School Patron, former Archbishop, Dr Peter Carnley AC expressed his joy in seeing the growth of the school over these past 16 years and the enactment of the School Motto, Grace and Truth. It has been a delight to see our students embracing all the opportunities offered at PCACS in this, our 16th Birthday year.
The Highlights from Semester One are captured in this VIDEO. We hope you enjoy it.
NAIDOC Week
At my Principal’s Assembly on the last day of term, we celebrated the achievements of Term 2 and NAIDOC Week. The NAIDOC theme this year is For Our Elders. We were honoured to be joined by Mr Barry Winmar, Whadjuk Noongar Elder, local business owner and Councillor for the City of Kwinana. Mr Winmar spoke to the students about significance of the Welcome to Country and what it means to be an Elder. I thank Barry for joining us for NAIDOC Week and for speaking from the heart, sharing his cultural knowledge and story with us. There are NAIDOC Week events being held by the City of Kwinana and indeed right across Australia this week.
