Week 8
Are you OK? This question seems to hold more significance this year as the world grapples with the challenges of COVID-19. It will take decades to really see the full social and economic impact of the pandemic, however, what we can do immediately is to care for our families and community. Through our Compass Programme, the Senior School students engaged in R U OK? Day today, exploring what it means to be a good friend, a good listener and the importance of checking on a mate. The day was filled with activities centred around building relationships, wellness and active participation.
Hope, compassion, strength in community, and a belief that things can turn around, are significant aspects to a positive view of the future. In our School, we understand the importance of health, wellbeing and spiritual growth for a positive view on the world and hope for a better future. Active learning, learner strengths, positive behavior expectations, strong relationships and pastoral care are many of the ways we grow our students to be ready for the world around them.
Carnivals
This past fortnight has seen the running of the Junior School Carnival days, ELC Tabloid Sports and our Senior School Interschool team competed at the ACC Carnival at the WA Athletics Stadium on Tuesday. The contrast between a child in Kindergarten enjoying their first carnival through to our Year 12s competing in their final school carnival is vast. A common thread is a sense of accomplishment, team spirit, School pride and the encouragement of others to do their best. Congratulations to all students for their level of participation and to the parents who were able to attend.
Visit by The Archbishop
Archbishop Kay Goldsworthy holds PCACS in a special place in her heart. As one of the first women to be ordained, she fondly remembers the time when Peter Carnley was the Archbishop and his fight for the ordination of women. Since then, Archbishop Kay has progressed through a number of firsts, becoming Bishop in 2008 and then our Archbishop in 2018. Archbishop Kay spent the day with us on 2 September, starting with Junior School Chapel where a portrait of her was presented to the School as a reminder of her ground breaking journey. Archbishop Kay was treated to some engaging lessons including Year 8 Music, Year 12 Mathematics, Year 3 RAVE and finishing with a visit to all the classes at Calista. The Prefects, members of Student Council and the Junior School Service Captains had the opportunity to ask questions, generating a thought provoking discussion with our student leaders. We thank Archbishop Kay for her inspiration and generosity.
P&F AGM
The P&F AGM was held on Wednesday 2 September 2020 to vote in the Office Bearers for 2021. The AGM was moved to Term 3 to allow a handover of positions during Term 4.
Congratulations to our 2021 P&F Committee:
President – Matt Rowse
Vice President – Clarissa Thomson
Treasurer – Lauren Wiegele
Secretary – Maree Owen
Committee – Nicola Neale, Sylvia Reed, Mary Tennent, Debbie Howitt, Guido Verdi and Sarah Thomson.
Thank you to the 2020 Committee for your hard work and dedication. The year didn’t go to plan with many events being cancelled due to the pandemic. I look forward to the coming 12 months, working with the Committee to provide fun and exciting events for our families.
Arts and Technologies Week
Our Annual Arts and Technologies theme this year is Connections. Our Exhibition Opening on Friday 18 September will look different his year, with families being invited to bring a picnic and enjoy the casual music concert before proceeding into the KLC for the Official Opening. The exhibition will be bigger and better than last year with the display of student, staff and artist works. A Music Concert and various workshops continue into Week 10, culminating with the PCACS Got Talent Final on the last day of the term. I look forward to seeing the diversity of talent on display from our students, staff and families.
God bless.
