Who would have guessed that 2022 would be such a rollercoaster ride? After the restrictions of Term 1, it is so refreshing to complete Term 3 with a full complement of activities and some added gems. With the freedom to hold events and welcome parents and visitors back on site, it has been all steam ahead! All the usual Term 3 events have been held such as the carnivals, Book Week, Operation Op Shop, Year 4 sleepover, Tabloid sports, World Peace Games and RUOK Day. Learning Showcases across the Calista and Wellard campuses proved very informative. The students enjoyed sharing their learning with their families.
Arts and Technologies Week
The term ended with the Arts and Technologies Week, with the Exhibition Opening last Friday night and the Performing Arts Showcase this week. A showcase of visual art, wood work, metal work, digital art, textiles and wearable art, the exhibition included music performances, dance and a fashion parade. Artist Mikaela Miller was our guest artist, opening our exhibition by encouraging the audience to consider place, identity and their relationship with the natural environment. The work on display certainly highlighted the creative abilities of our students. I thank our Arts and Technologies staff for their inspiration.
It Takes a Spark STEM Conference
Combining TIDES and Arts and Technology Week, PCACS hosted the It Takes a Spark Conference. 400 students and 50 staff from 38 schools came to explore STEM innovation with presenters from across the country. We were honoured to welcome Deputy Premier, The Honourable Roger Cook to open the Conference, encouraging the students to explore Science and Technology to be the change makers of the future. The whole campus came alive with the Chapel, KLC, Hub, Commons, Science and Technology buildings all in use. After such a success, PCACS will host this state conference again in 2023.
Hub Update
As Term 3 closes, I am thrilled that the Hub building has been completed and we are moving in! The Hub is right in the heart of the school and will be enjoyed by Junior and Senior School students. The former undercover area has been refurbished into an auditorium for performing arts and incursions. It has already been used to host the It Takes a Spark Conference and Kaboom percussion performances. The new café facing the lawn has started with a ‘soft opening’ with full operation planned for next term. The upstairs innovation and research centre and reading room are being stocked with books in readiness for Term 4. The IT Tech Support, TIDES classroom and offices are also in the building. The students are making good use of the new outdoor covered areas and the furniture donated by the P&F. The Hub will be officially named and opened next term and will add so much to the life of our School.
