Last week I had the pleasure of announcing the new Head of Junior School. Congratulations to Ms Kierin Janes on her appointment and we wish her all the best as she prepares to take on the role in January 2024. Ms Janes is well known to our PCACS family, and the news has been received with joy from current and past families. Her deep understanding of our community, together with a clear vision for the future make her the ideal person to take on the role. Ms Janes is excited to grasp this amazing opportunity and lead the Junior School into the next exciting chapter. Congratulations Ms Janes!
Transition and looking to the future are a permeant theme at this time of the year. The new student leaders for 2024 have been announced and the Prefects are already busy taking on their roles. ATAR exams are in full swing. The Pre Kindergarten and Kindergarten 2024 Orientations are scheduled and the Transition Days for Junior School and the 2024 Year 7s will be held this week to introduce the students to their new classrooms, staff and experiences. The end of year events and Christmas festivities are fast approaching.
2024 Student Leadership
The Student Leader Announcement Assembly brought the Junior School and Senior School together to announce our student leaders for 2024. The School Prefects were announced along with the Junior School Captains. We are blessed with potential leaders and the selection process was a difficult one. I thank all the candidates for putting themselves forward and acknowledge the students who missed out for their dignity and grace in which they handled the news.
2024 Senior Student Leadership team are:
Head Girl: Piper Smith
Head Boy: Anotida Chiyangwa
Deputy Head Prefect: Amtoj Randhawa
Deputy Head Prefect: Christopher Argentino
Service Captain: Maia Kavanagh-Shorter
Arts Captain: Ellie Haselhurst
Chapel Captain: Devine Mbano
Laurence House Captain: Tawana Mawoko
Lindbeck House Captain: Anna Sawicki
Moody House Captain: Kaili Hohl
Murray House Captain: Eleora Chimombe
2024 Junior School Captains are listed in the Head of Junior School article.
I am very impressed by the ideas and inspiration these students bring to their roles. I wish them well as they take on their new roles.
Already actively involved, several of the 2024 Prefects joined the WAASA Leaders Day. Archbishop Kay Goldsworthy challenged them to think deeply about leadership within an Anglican School. Leadership activities and meaningful discussions with fellow leaders across WA Anglican Schools made the day a rewarding one.
Outdoor Rec Camp
We have a comprehensive camp programme here at PCACS. Camps are an important aspect of building character and leadership. I was thrilled to join the Year 11 Outdoor Recreation Camp last week. Abseiling off the sea cliffs at Wilyabrup is both terrifying and deeply rewarding and the team spirit as each member took on the challenge, encouraged by the rest of the group was wonderful to witness. The camp in Margaret River forms part of the Outdoor Recreation course with activities such as caving, walking a section of the Cape to Cape, a bush tucker tour and canoeing. Camp experiences at PCACS are designed to stretch the student’s capability as they collaborate in a unique setting, learning new skills and growing their leadership skills and resilience. The next camp will be the Year 9 Rite Journey Camp. Another amazing opportunity to grow.
God bless.
Ms Felicity House
