Exciting News!
Chapel Commencement
I am thrilled to share with you exciting news about the building program at PCACS.
With the uncertainty earlier in the year surrounding Covid, it was wise to press the pause button on the Chapel building. However, we are now in the position to recommence. We are currently engaged in the tender process and will be selecting the builders to start the Chapel build in the coming weeks. In the interim, we have been working closely with the architects to design the landscaping including the addition of shelters for the kiss and drop zone and enhanced play areas for the students. Here are some architect drawings of the Chapel precinct. The expected completion of the Chapel should be late in Term 4 2021, and we hope to celebrate our first Christmas in 2021.
‘The Hub’
I am also thrilled to announce a new project as part of the Masterplan of the School. The area currently housing the canteen, undercover area, library and staffroom will be extended and refurbished into a new precinct called ‘The Hub’. Incorporating an auditorium for performing arts, dance room, large collaborative classroom, and new café downstairs, the upstairs area will be extended to create a large innovation and research centre. The upstairs has been designed with interactive spaces for collaboration and research as well as areas for reading and study. ‘The Hub’ will be a place for our students to research, design, perform and innovate. At the front of this new precinct will be a café facing the lawn area. I look forward to sharing the artists impressions of this wonderful new precinct in the coming newsletters. The intention is to build ‘The Hub’ in 2021, ready for the start of 2022.
Both the Chapel and ‘The Hub’ speak to the heart of our plans for the School moving forward as we embrace new opportunities for our students including programmes such as Voyager, Compass and TIDES. These buildings create new spaces for us to come together to celebrate, perform, learn and grow. Both Junior School and Senior School will enjoy the benefits of these contemporary new spaces.
The Class of 2020
There comes a time when the Year 12s are ready to venture beyond our gates. That time has come for our Class of 2020. To honour their time at PCACS, we held a moving Valedictory Assembly where the staff and students paid tribute to the Year 12s. The Year 6 students sang ‘We’re All In This Together’ and the Year 2 students presented each Year 12 with a gift and a personalised letter. The Head Boy and Head Girl spoke on behalf of the Year 12s. At the end, the younger students formed a guard of honour. This glorious PCACS tradition is truly uplifting to watch. As the Year 12s pass, the younger students cheer and wave to the ‘big kids’, finally gathering at the cross at the front of the school. We followed on that evening with our Valedictory Eucharist and Dinner. Thank you to Bishop Kate Wilmot for leading our Eucharist Service.
The Class of 2020 have been a wonderful example of resilience and comradery. Despite the challenges 2020 has thrown at them, they set a positive and hopeful tone for the school. Their focus on equality and inclusion has been notable and their legacy will be well remembered. I would like to take this opportunity to wish the Class of 2020 all the best for the future. I have no doubt they will leave PCACS with strong values and bright futures ahead of them. They will be missed.
God bless.
