The end of the year is at our doorstep. The Year 10, 11 and ATAR Exams are coming to a close. Next week, end of year events begin with the Nativity performances at Calista and Junior School Awards Presentations. The Year 9s go out on their Rite Journey camp to Manjedal, the Year 10s venture out on work experience and the Year 11s will enjoy time exploring the city and going to Swan Valley Adventure centre. I thank our staff for their hard work and for the effort they put into providing these rewarding opportunities for our students.
Parliament House Tour
It was my pleasure to accept an invitation from The Honorable Reece Whitby MLA to take a group of our students to Parliament House last week. Rev Kim joined us and we were impressed by the quality of questions the students asked during the tour and over lunch.
“These amazing young students from Peter Carnley Anglican Community School in Wellard had no end of interesting questions for me when they visited Parliament House today.
Thanks for your great company and questions. These bright young men and women are a credit to their school and families” The Honorable Reece Whitby MLA I couldn’t agree more.
Thank you to Ryan Rawlinson, Yueshabelle Caquilala, Lindsay King , Anotida Chiangwa, Phoebe Fusire and Lucinda Pepper for representing our School so well.
The Archbishop Kay Goldsworthy
I attended an inspiring woman in leadership event last week, where Archbishop Kay Goldsworthy was the guest speaker. The Archbishop’s journey of trailblazing is a remarkable one including a number of firsts; she was in the first group of women to be ordained to the priesthood, the first woman to become a Bishop and first female Archbishop in the Anglican Church of Australia. Trusting in your own abilities, realising what others see in you and having the courage to step forward and grasp opportunities was the resounding message in her address. The Archbishop accepted my invitation to come to visit our Chapel this week. The building has progressed to the installation of windows, plasterboard, insulation and air-conditioning. It is beginning to feel more like a building and less like a building site. It was a delight for Rev Kim and I to show the Archbishop through the building.
2022 Transition Day
There was much excitement on Friday at Transition Day. The most excited were the Year 1s who came across from Calista to Wellard to be Year 2s for the day. Joyous sounds of Year 6s from our Junior School and from local primary schools were also heard throughout the School as the 2022 Year 7s came into Senior School for the day. We have our largest group of Year 7s starting Senior School next year, with over fifty students joining our transitioning Junior School students. All these students made the beginnings of new friendships and we can’t wait to see them again for Orientation Day in January.
On Country Day
This week the ASC Principals, Chairs and ASC senior staff joined Professor Len Collard for a day on country at Wedjemup (Rottnest Island). The day gave an insight into ways we can heal and build productive relationships with Aboriginal communities with the view to embrace the realities of the past in order to move forward in a productive and informed way.
Carols on the Green
The Carols on the Green event this year will begin with a Community Picnic at 4.00pm, with the Carols Service beginning at 6.00pm. Thank you to the P&F for organizing the food trucks and Carnley’s Cuppas will also be open and operated by our student baristas. We will be supporting the Anglicare WA Christmas Appeal by collecting gold coin donations and raffling Christmas hampers. This year we will again be collecting stationery items for Anglicare to distribute to families in need. The donations last year were so generous and I thank everyone for considering the children who will benefit from starting the year with new stationery items.
I wish you well for these final weeks of the School year and hope to see you at the Nativity, Awards Ceremonies or at Carols on the Green.
God bless
Ms Felicity House
