Monday 8 February was a joyous day as we opened our doors to start the 2021 School year after a week of lockdown. It was great catching up with students and finding out about holiday adventures and hopes for the year ahead. The wearing of masks by Senior School students and staff added an interesting element to the routines of the day and I congratulate everyone for the way in which they responded to the new restrictions. During lockdown, our staff undertook training for online systems, as we prepared for a number of possible future scenarios. Even though we hope there is no need to swing any of these into action, it was a good time to test our preparedness, processes and systems.
The lockdown last week was overshadowed by the enormity of the crisis created by the bushfires. I am sure you share my anguish in seeing the images and hearing of the numbers of homes lost. Our prayers are with all those affected, especially the families of our fellow ASC schools. Swan Valley Anglican Community School was in the red zone for much of last week as well as families from our schools including John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School and John Wollaston Anglican Community School.
We are very pleased to hear the Premier’s announcement today about moving back to post lockdown restrictions. I am sure everyone will be pleased that masks are no longer required.
Chapel Building
The Chapel is progressing well, with significant site work underway. I share these new images with you, showing the Chapel and the surrounds as they will look by the end of the year.
The Chapel is one of the many exciting projects underway in 2021. The new timetable has been well received by the students, who are enjoying the flow of 50 minute lessons and the additional subject offerings.
Buses
Our new bus service began on Wednesday. The Northern route begins in Aubin Grove and is proving to be particularly popular. The Southern route takes in Baldivis and Wellard. Further information can be found later in this Newsletter. These routes will be reviewed in due course and feedback is welcome.
Week 3
We are all looking forward to the week ahead without masks. We can also start rescheduling events.
The Principal’s Welcome and Student Leader Assembly will be held on Thursday 18 February commencing at 8.30am in the Keith Lindbeck Centre where we will recognise our Prefects and student leaders of 2021.
Take care
Ms Felicity House
