Now that we are back in full swing, the Term is flying by! It’s been great to be out and about at both Calista and Wellard campuses, as well as off site, to see our students enjoying themselves and learning through new experiences. With visits from Constable Care and Chinese Lion Dancers, Parent Information Evenings, the Year 5 Camp and the Senior School Swimming Carnival just to name a few. I was very impressed by the Year 5 students when I spent a day with them on camp. The challenge of growing independence was well grasped by the students, as well as the camp focus on respect for self, others and the environment. I am sure there will be many tales to tell and I thank the group I joined for the abseiling activity. Their care and encouragement of each other including Rev. Kim and myself saw everyone abseil down the rock face, despite the nerves.
This weekend the Year 12s will celebrate their Year 12 Ball at the East Fremantle Yacht Club. The lockdown caused a rescheduling of the event and I am thrilled that we could find an alternative date at this beautiful venue. Thank you to Mrs Cara Barrett for making the necessary changes and we look forward to sharing stories and photos of the event in the near future.
The Anglicare Ambassadors launch was held at Christ Church Grammar School last week. Bridie Jones was chosen from all the WA Anglican Schools to pass on her wisdom as a past Anglicare Ambassador to the incoming Ambassadors. Not only did Bridie speak with confidence and authenticity, her words highlighted the remarkable work of PCACS students in raising awareness and funds for worthy causes such as youth homelessness. Congratulations to Pheobie Barry, Stephanie Beaumont Cabrera, Izacc Dahdal, Maddi Fallon, Ada Isidienu, Olivia Opie and Abbee Zikali who are already planning events, starting with Crazy Hair Day. Thank you to Mrs Weddikkara for guiding and inspiring these students.
School Traffic
I sent a letter to families earlier this week reminding everyone of traffic protocols at the Wellard campus. I know there has been great frustration in recent weeks. I encourage everyone to be courteous and drive in a manner that actively promotes safety and the flow of traffic. Parking in the ‘Kiss and Drop’ area is not allowed and this is the biggest cause of blockages to the flow of traffic. If you arrive earlier than 3:10pm, you must park in a designated bay, never in the ‘Kiss and Drop’. Once the students are out of class it takes a few more minutes for them to get to the pick up area, so delay your entry if you prefer to drive through and pick up. The ‘Kiss and Drop’ works well as long as cars continue to move through. If your children are not ready or there is no room for you to safely pull in to the ‘Kiss and Drop’, please continue on and park to allow other vehicles to enter the School grounds and not block up the entry and roundabout. Students are supervised until 3:30pm, so I encourage those picking students up to consider arriving a little later. Arriving at 3:20pm may save time and frustration. I thank everyone for responding to these protocols.
Next week
There is great excitement as the Year 7s prepare to head off to camp next week. My best advice is to pack clothes and shoes that are appropriate for camping and that can get dirty. Our Year 3 to Year 6 students are also looking forward to their swimming carnival and the Year 9s will mark the beginning of their journey to adulthood through the Rite Journey Departure Ceremony at Shoalwater. With lots to look forward to, it’s time for a long weekend.
Take care and enjoy this long weekend.
