Week 2, Term 2
This term we welcome some new members to our PCACS family. Fourteen new students joined us for the start of the term across Pre Kindergarten through to Year 11, including some students who have returned to PCACS. We welcome back Mrs Claire Barkman (Year 2) from parental leave, Mr Brendan Martin to the HASS Department and Mrs Donna Stiles joins us as Home Economics Assistant whilst Mrs Kylie Trent takes long service leave. We congratulate Mrs Jo Clarke who takes on the role of Year 7 Coordinator and Mrs Jacinta Bass who takes on the role of Learning Support Coordinator. We wish all those who are new, returning or taking on new roles all the very best.
One thing we have become accustomed to over the past year is the need to be responsive and adaptable and the start of Term 2 has been no different. Our staff and students have adjusted to the latest restrictions with creativity and good humour. As we all appreciate mask wearing is challenging, so credit goes to our Senior School students and staff who have taken wearing them in their stride. Thank you to our community for your support and messages of encouragement. They are very much appreciated.
The ANZAC Day ceremony is a very significant event in our School calendar. This year our guest speakers were to be Royal Australian Navy Commander Dylan Findlater and Mrs Vivian Blycha CEO of Legacy WA, former Army Major and Logistician, with Mr Dennis Wood Kwinana RSL and The Mayor Carol Adams OAM in attendance. As we came out of lockdown, the service became unfeasible, so we created a virtual ceremony to honour those who have served our country in times of war and peace.
Senior School Cross Country
A highlight of Week One is always the Senior School Cross Country event. Last Friday we were treated to lovely weather and friendly competition as the Year 7 to 12 students took on the course that starts on Wellard Oval, takes them around the school, across Abingdon Park and back to Wellard Oval. Congratulations to Murray House for winning the carnival, after also winning the Swimming Carnival last term. Well done to the Champions and Runners Up on the day and to the PE Staff for the superbly organised event.
Xanadu
After many months of rehearsals including weekends and holidays, the cast of Xanadu were in final preparations for Opening Night of the School production, Xanadu, when we went into lockdown. Sadly, the restrictions to theatre audience numbers has caused us to rethink the production dates. It is likely that we will reschedule the show well after the Upper School exams so that the seniors can focus on their exams and finalise their semester one assessments. Show details will be distributed soon. In the meantime, hold on to your tickets and they will be valid for the new performance schedule. We acknowledge the adaptability of Ms Walter, Ms Jones and our talented and resilient cast and crew.
God bless.
Ms Felicity House
